New Feature: Quick Image Resizer for Customer Sites!

For any layouts that have a clickable Image box (see below), we’ve added a new feature so you can quickly resize the image. In the past, these images had to be resized before uploading.

Image_box

Below the image box, there are 4 default sizes you can select from a drop down menu:

Original Size – image shows as is

Original_size

Small Size – 160 pixel width

Small_Image

Medium Size – 320 pixel width

Medium_image

Large Size – 480 pixel width

Large_image

The height always adjusts so the image is still in proportion. Note that if you select a size that is bigger than the original size, the image quality won’t be as good.

Like before, you can alternatively click the image insert button on the Easy Editor if you would like to have more flexibility for the location and dimensions of your image.

New Customer Feature: 15 New Web Page Layouts with Columns

Have you ever wished you could have a 3 or even a 4 column layout? Or, maybe put a Google ad on the right side of your page?

We’re happy to announce 15 brand new layouts that give you loads of flexibility in how your customers can format pages without having to insert a table.

To access these new layouts, add a new page or edit an old “Web Page” layout page. Then, click on “Change Layout” on the left side.

Change_layout

You will then see a total of 26 layout options. The new ones are circled below.

All_layouts

For the new layouts, you can select how wide each column is by dragging a slider that appears at the top. Simply drag the squares to change the percentage distribution of your columns. The total always adds up to 100%. The minimum column width is 5%.

Column_size

Below that, you can select how much column padding — i.e. spacing between columns — you would like. The range is from 1 to 30 pixels.

When inputting your content, a snapshot to the left of each text box will show you which area of the page you’re editing.

Common Questions Answered:

Q:  Will I lose my content if I change from a layout with 4 sections down to 3 sections?

No, but the information in the 4th section won’t show.  However, if you change to a layout with at least 4 sections again, all your content will reappear. This is what happens anytime you change to a layout with less sections than before.

Q:  How come my image/video/table is overlapping onto another column?

If you insert an image, video or table that’s wider than the column width percent you chose, it will appear behind the content of the next column over. The only exception is if the image is at the edge of your template design, it will just be cut off.  You can adjust your image, video or table width to fix the problem.

Here are some ideas of what you can do with the new layouts:

Website Builder Upgrade and Face Lift

Over the past few months, we’ve been doing some reconstructive surgery on your favorite website builder and before we launch, we want to give you a sneak peek of what’s to come at the end of March.

What you’ll notice right away…

Updated dashboard
When you first sign in after the updates are launched, the biggest change you’ll probably notice is the dashboard. While all the information is the same, we’ve organized things a little differently to bring your most important information front and center.

Dash multisite no store - small
Top navigation on all parts of the website builder
Currently, the dashboard doesn’t include the tabs at the top that allow you to quickly access different parts of your website. Soon you will be able click “Edit Site” from anywhere in the website builder.

Single-site focus for accounts with multiple websites
If you have multiple sites under one account, you will notice that the website builder will only show information specific to the site that you are working with. You can also switch between sites right from the top navigation, instead of having to go back to the dashboard every time.

Updated features for ease of use
To make the website builder easier to learn, we’ve updated some features to work more similarly to others. For example, whether you’re adding an email address or a coupon, the process is almost identical.

What you may not notice…

Some of the changes we’ve made are “under the hood”, and they’ll make a more subtle difference to how the website builder works. The changes we’ve made to the code will:

Increase page-loading speed
Following the upgrade, you may notice that pages load faster and you spend less time waiting for your changes to save.

Allow for faster development
Modifications made in the back-end will make it faster and easier to make changes, updates, and develop new features in the future.

All in all, the upgrades should make it easier for you to work with the website builder, as well as pave the way for faster development in the future.

We’re excited for these changes and hope that you find the website builder easier to use once they’re launched!

Updated Feature: Site-wide Footer

If you’re using the feature formerly known as “Page Footer,” this is a great update for you.

This feature, now known as “Site-wide Footer,” does just that – applies the same content to the bottom of each website page you choose. Just enter your text and images in the editor and select which pages you want them inserted on, and the builder does the rest!

Footer
Aside from the name change, this feature will now automatically apply your footer to all new pages. In the past, you had to go into the feature and apply it to all new pages.

To check out the new feature or give it a whirl, you’ll still find it in the same place: Edit Site > Site-wide Footer.

New Template Header Editor

Want an easy way to insert text, like your company name, into your website template header? You’ve got it!

We’ve updated the template header editor and you can now easily add up to three lines of text to your header image. We’ve also made slight changes to the header image uploading options.

To take a look, go to ‘Design’ > ‘Edit Current Template’ > ‘Edit Header’.

2010-03-25 - headitor

NOTE: To streamline the editor and encourage more user-friendly design, we’ve removed the ‘right image’ uploader, unless you currently have an image uploaded. Please note that once that right image is deleted, you will not be able to re-upload it as that feature will be disabled.

Text Editor Upgrade For Your Clients

To continue to offer you a great website builder experience, we’ve upgraded the text editor!

The upgraded text editor looks a little fresher than the old one, but works almost identically. The difference?

Cleaner Code

To create your web pages, the text editor converts your text into HTML code. The existing editor sometimes adds extra pieces of code that don’t need to be there and that can change the way your content is displayed. The upgrade reduces the amount of extra code generated, resulting in more consistent results when creating your page.

Adjustable Size

You can now adjust the size of the editor by clicking and dragging the bottom right corner. This allows you to see more of your page content without scrolling!

The upgraded editor is now on all newly created pages, and for the time being you will have the option to upgrade it on existing pages. As the editor does treat your content a little differently, you may need to make some adjustments before saving, which is why you can do it on a page by page basis.

Please upgrade the editor on all your pages by August 31, 2010, as at that time the editor will be automatically upgraded across you and your customers websites.

Thanks!

Google AdWords – Are You on Google Yet?

Did you know that your customers get a free $50 coupon for Google AdWords?

If they have subscribed to thier website for longer than 30 days and have not already redeemed an AdWords coupon, they should now see a new widget on the right side of thier dashboard. Through this widget they can generate a coupon code that they can redeem for $50 in Google AdWords credits.

2010-03-09 - Google AdWords
AdWords is Google’s advertising network that positions your ads alongside search engine results. This type of advertising is also known as Pay-Per-Click, or PPC, because you only pay for your ad when it is clicked by a searcher.

New Referral Program is Live for Your Customers!

To show you how grateful we are for every customer you refer, we’re improving how our referral program works!

With the old program, you got your site for free whether you referred 3 or 300 people. With the new program, the more people you refer, the bigger the reward!

Here’s how it works:

  1. You get a link that you can distribute a number of ways (Twitter, email, website footer, etc.)
  2. For every person that signs up through your link, you get 5 credits for every month their site is active.
  3. Each credit is worth $1 and can be redeemed by phone to pay for your website subscription.

You’ll find the new “Get a Free Website” program under “Free Website” below your profile picture on your Dashboard.

NOTE: For your customers that had already referred more than 3 active websites and had your website for free, we started them off with up to 400 credits. These credits were calculated based on the number of referring active websites they had at the time of the changeover and how long each of those sites had been active. These credits are meant to keep the site free until the credits start building up again!
